Le 20 mai sur le Pavillon des Cinémas du Sud au Festival de Cannes 2008, Serge Toubiana, Directeur Général de la Cinémathèque Française et Bouchra Khalili, réalisatrice, qui dirige la Cinémathèque de Tanger, ont animé une table ronde réunissant à l'occasion des 40 ans de la Quinzaine des Réalisateurs Moufida Tlatli (Tunisie), Ingrid Sinclair (Zimbabwe) et Nadine Labaki (Liban), trois réalisatrices au parcours exemplaire, sélectionnées à la Quinzaine avec Les Silences du Palais (1994), Flame (1997) et Caramel (2007). Le 21 mai 2008 s'est tenue au Pavillon des Cinémas du Sud du festival de Cannes une table ronde animée par Jean-Pierre Garcia (Festival International du Film d'Amiens) et Jeanne Labrune (réalisatrice), avec Taghreed Elsanhouri (Soudan, réalisatrice), Angie Mills (Afrique du Sud, productrice), Osvalde Lewat (Cameroun, réalisatrice), Lucia Murat (Brésil, réalisatrice), Tan Chui Mui (Malaisie, réalisatrice), Awatif Na'eem (Iraq, actrice), Bani Etemad (Iran, réalisatrice), ayant pour thème : "Cinémas et engagement : un engagement féministe, artistique et /ou politique ?" The Pan-African Union of Women in the Image Industry (AFAPTV) meets at the Fifth Women’s Regional Conference in preparation for the Beijing Conference in November 1994. AFAPTV emphasized the importance of presenting African perspectives at this international event and that women filmmakers on the continent should take the lead in the visualization of these perspectives.
